Private Whiccar was wounded at the Battle of the Wilderness on May 5th, 1864. He was transferred to Company A of the 20th Indiana Infantry in the late fall of 1864 and then to Company A of the 17th Veteran Reserve Corps until the end of the war.

He filed for a pension in June of 1869.
