James Marion Stewart

Mustered into service as a Private on July 29th, 1861

Born 22 August 1842

Died 28 August 1862.

Private Stewart contracted typhoid fever and was in the United States General Hospital the last part of May to early June 1862. He rejoined the regiment and was killed at the Battle of Brawner Farm on August 28th, 1862. He had two cousins that also served in the regiment. One of them, Alexander, looked for his body after the battle and was captured by the rebels.

His body was never identified and is probably buried as a "Unknown" soldier.
