Private Steadman was detached to Battery B of the 4th U.S. Artillery from November of 1861 to February of 1864. He was wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1st, 1863. He transferred to Company I of the 20th Indiana Infantry and served there until his muster out on July 12th, 1865.
Arthur never filed for a pension but in March of 1886 his widow Catharine did file for a 'widows' pension.
