Private Smock was wounded at the Battle of Petersburg Virginia on June 18th, 1864. He was shot in the left leg just above the knee that required amputation. He was eventually sent to a hospital in Washington D.C. where he remained until October of 1865.

 

He filed for a pension in July of 1866.
