Private Shroyer was killed at the Battle of Laurel Hill Virginia.

After receiving news that his son had died in battle Absalom's father Anthony went to Virginia and recovered his body. His mother was able to identify the handmade shirt sleeve that Absalom was wearing when he arrived at home for burial.
