George W. Rains

Mustered into service as a Private December 31st, 1861

Born 06 June 1843

Died 17 February 1915

Private Rains was transferred to Company A of the 20th Indiana Infantry in the fall of 1864 and served there until his muster out on July 12th, 1865.

He filed for a pension in March 1881.

George was reported to have attended the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg in the summer of 1913. At that time his residence was Mott, Hettinger County North Dakota.  His death certificate states that he was still a resident of the same town and county.

George Rains is probably buried in this county and very possibly in the

Sunny Slope Cemetery in the town of Mott.
