Private Porter was transferred to Company A of the 20th Indiana Infantry in the fall of 1864 and he served there until his muster out for disability on June 12th, 1865.

Before joining the 19th Indiana Perry was in Company A of the 59th Indiana Infantry mustering in on October 10th, 1861. He was discharged from that regiment on March 31st, 1863.

He filed for a pension in May of 1877.
