Private Pegg received a gunshot wound to the left leg at the Battle of the Wilderness on May 6th, 1864. He was holding the rank of Sergeant when he was wounded. On September 8th, 1864 he was mustered out of the 19th Indiana while in Indianapolis Indiana. On February 15th, 1865 he was mustered in as a 1st Lieutenant of Company A of the 147th Indiana Infantry. He mustered out of that regiment on August 4th, 1865 holding the rank of Captain.

He filed for a pension in 1888.
