Private Parr first served in Company B of the 31st Indiana Infantry from September 1861 to August of 1862. After joining the 19th Indiana in early 1864 he was transferred to Company A of the 20th Indiana Infantry where remained until his muster out.

He filed for a pension in December of 1863.
