Private Norris took sick soon after he arrived in Virginia in 1864. For the month of April he had remittent fever, acute diarrhea, and the mumps. He recovered from his sickness and was then wounded at the Battle of Petersburg on June 18th, 1864. He was shot in the right shoulder and gangrene set in eating away at this flesh. He recovered from the wound to the point where he again was able to rejoin the regiment. In the fall of 1864 he was transferred to Company E of the 20th Indiana Infantry were he served until his muster out on July 12th, 1865.

 

He filed for a pension in August of 1865.

 

He is currently buried in a unmarked grave just to the left of the GAR marker in the above photo.
