Private Needham contracted typhoid fever soon after arriving in Washington D.C. with the regiment in the fall of 1861. He would soon be discharged for disability because of this fever.

Newton also served in Company E of the 24th Ohio Infantry and Company F of the 18th Ohio Infantry.

He filed for a pension in 1890.

 

Newton Wesley Needham is buried in a unmarked grave in a unknown location at the Greenlawn / City cemetery. Currently the cemetery office has no record of where he is buried. The above photo is where he might be located.
