Private Koerber would serve in the 19th Indiana until his muster out on January 16th, 1863. He would again join the Army on May 12th, 1864 mustering into Company H of the 163rd Ohio Infantry. He served there until his muster out on September 10th, 1864.

He filed for a pension in March of 1879.

The 1890 census says he received a gun shot wound to the right leg.
