Valentine Jacobs
Mustered into service as a Captain on July 29th, 1861
Died 18 June 1878
Buried Greenlawn Cemetery, Marion County Indiana
Captain Jacobs was dishonorably dismissed from the service because of his actions in the summer of 1862 just prior to the Battle of Brawner Farm. This discharge was dated October 13th, 1862.
After his death he was buried at the Greenlawn Cemetery near downtown Indianapolis. By 1890 new burials were no longer permitted. Because of vandalism and grave robbing the bodies in cemetery were moved to the Crown Hill cemetery located farther out of the city. There is no record of him being moved to the new cemetery so his body was very likely one of the ones stolen and used in local medical schools.
