Private Grim came down with a case of remittent fever soon after arriving in Washington D.C. in the late summer of 1861. He would soon be discharged from the service because of disability. In October of 1864 he joined Company K of the 51st Indiana Infantry as a substitute where he served until his muster out in October of 1865.
He filed for a pension in March of 1864.
