Samuel M. Goodwin
Mustered into service as a Sergeant on July 29th, 1861
Died 05 November 1864
Sergeant Goodwin was shot in the ankle during the fighting on May 23rd, 1864 in the North Anna River Virginia area. His foot was amputated and he was taken to the Portsmouth Grove Hospital located in Rhode Island where he died and was probably buried at the hospital. In the summer of 1865 the hospital was closed and they moved the soldiers buried in their cemetery to the Cypress Hill National Cemetery located in Brooklyn New York. It is very possible that he is buried there.
