Private Gibson would be discharged from the 19th Indiana in February of 1862 because of disability. On September 2nd, 1862 he mustered into Company E of the 79th Indiana Infantry where he would serve until his muster out on June 7th, 1865.
He filed for a pension in July of 1879.
