Private Davis first served in Company H of the 14th Indiana Infantry mustering in on June 7th, 1861 and mustering out on September 24th, 1861. While in the 19th Indiana he was captured at the Battle of Gettysburg but soon rejoined the regiment.

He filed for a pension in August of 1883.
