Private Bunch was captured at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1st, 1863 but would soon be paroled and he returned to the regiment. By the fall of 1864 the ranks of the 19th Indiana were so depleted by combat casualties and sickness they were folded into the 20th Indiana Infantry. George was moved to Company C of that regiment where he served until his muster out
in the summer of 1865. He held the rank of 1st Lieutenant at the time he left the army.
By 1883 he had filed for a pension.
