Private Buckles was wounded at the Battle of Brawner Farm on August 28th, 1862, the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1st, 1863, the Battle of the Wilderness on May 5th, 1864 and lastly he was shot in the right leg in the spring of 1865 that would require amputation. He was discharged for disability in May of that year holding the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.

 

For his bravery at the Battle of the Wilderness he was awarded the Medal of Honor.

 

He filed for a pension in June of 1865.
