Peter Bowman
Mustered into service as a Private on July 29th, 1861
Born 22 June 1805
Died 16 October 1874
Buried Olive Cemetery, Elkhart County Indiana
Private Bowman was listed as being 26 years old at the time of his enlistment. Some sources state that he was missing in action at the Battle of Brawner Farm on August 28th, 1862.
No pension was ever filed for this man.
In the 1940's the American Legion and the Indiana Adjutant General's Office listed all the soldiers who were buried in the cemeteries in the state. This listing shows that Peter Bowman of the 19th Indiana Infantry is buried at the Olive Cemetery in Elkhart County. Due to the age of the man buried there it is possible a mistake was made in the identity of this soldier. On the other hand it is possible Peter lied about his age at the time of his enlistment. Currently more evidence is needed to prove this is the man from the 19th Indiana.
