Private Bock first served in Company F of the 8th Indiana Infantry from April  25th, 1861 to August 6th, 1861. He was wounded at the Battle of the Wilderness on May 5th, 1864 and was eventually transferred to the 17th Veterans Reserve Corp where he would serve until the end of the war.

He filed for a pension in January of 1888.
