James M. Abbott

Mustered into service as a Private on February 14th, 1862

Private Abbott was severely wounded on May 12th, 1864 in the fighting around Laurel Hill Virginia. By the fall of 1864 the ranks of the 19th Indiana were so depleted from combat casualties and sickness they were folded into the 20th Indiana Infantry. James was put into Company I of that regiment were he continued to serve until his muster out on February 14th, 1865.

 

James filed for a pension two weeks after his muster out of service.
