Sergeant Major Young was promoted to 1st Lieutenant of Company D in October of 1861 but would resign in February of 1862. That same month he would accept the 1st. Lieutenant position in Company D of the 60th Indiana Infantry. He was promoted to Captain in December of 1862 but would die at home the following year.
