Corporal Whitney was promoted to Sergeant by the time he was wounded at the Battle of Brawner Farm on August 28th, 1862. He was shot in the left leg about 6 inches above the ankle breaking both bones. He was discharged for disability on April 16th, 1863. Edward returned to Indianapolis Indiana where he filed for a pension on May 13th, 1863.
