Private Ward was wounded during the fighting around Petersburg Virginia on July 30th, 1864. He transferred to the 20th Indiana in the fall of 1864 with the other surviving members of the 19th. Theodore mustered out on July 12th, 1865 at Jeffersonville Indiana.
He check into the Soldiers Home in Leavenworth Kansas in December of 1892 and remained there until his death.
He filed for and started to receive a pension in 1890.
