William Stewart

Mustered into service as a Private on July 29th, 1861

 

Private Stewart was present with the regiment all the way to the spring of 1863.  He became sick and was admitted to the hospital in Washington D.C. where he stayed until the early summer. He was with the regiment at the Battle of Gettysburg where he was wounded. Because of his wounds he was unable to continue service with the 19th Indiana so he transferred to the Invalid Corps on August 1st, 1863.

 

William never filed for a pension and currently his date of death and burial location are unknown.
