Alexander Stewart

Mustered into service as a Private on July 29th, 1861

Died 03 January 1881

Buried Johnson Township Cemetery, Clark County Illinois

Private Stewart was captured at the Battle of Brawner Farm on August 28th, 1862 and later paroled. He was sent home on this parole and while there he was shot in the left side by a southern sympathizer. Because of this wound he was discharged from the 19th Indiana on December 4th, 1863. He would later serve in Company G of the 123rd Illinois Infantry and Company C of the 61st Illinois Infantry.

 

In a statement by a undertaker of Clark County Illinois Alexander Stewart died on January 3rd, 1881 and was buried the following day in Johnson Township, Clark County Illinois. The actual cemetery where Alexander is buried is currently unknown.
