Private Isaiah Shew died of typhoid fever on October 16th, 1862 while the regiment was camped near AntietamMaryland. Private William Jackson of Company E wrote in his diary that Private Shew was buried at the Keedysville Cemetery on the 17th of October and he took part in the burial. It is possible that Isaiah was removed from that cemetery and taken to the Antietam National Cemetery at a later date. If this is true his identity was lost during the move and he is buried in a "Unknown" grave at the National Cemetery.
