On Saturday, January 22, 1916, the death angle visited Springtown and claimed as his victim Amos J. Rich at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 11 days. Mr. Rich was born in Jennings County Indiana March 11, 1833. He was married to Eliza A. Howe in 1863. To this union was born nine children, of whom two and his companion preceded him through the vally of death. He professed a hope in Christ and for a number of years was a member of the Baptist church and lived in the Christian hope to the time of his death. Funeral services were conducted by the writer at the Baptist Church at Springtown after which the body was taken to the Gentry Cemetery and buried by the side of his companion.
