James Milton Rains

Mustered into service as a Private January, 1864

 

Private Rains was slightly wounded at the Battle of the Wilderness on May 6th, 1864. He transferred to Company A of the 20th Indiana Infantry in the fall of 1864 and served there until his muster out on July 12th, 1865.

 

James filed for a pension in May of 1882 and by April of 1897 his wife Isabell filed for a "widows" pension while living in Missouri. She was not granted any benefits.

 

James Milton Rains died sometime before April 1897 but his exact date of death or burial location are unknown.
