Corporal Phelps was reduced in ranks becoming a Private on December 31st, 1861. He then became a teamster for the Brigade Headquarters until late 1863. At that time he was moved over to the Division Headquarters where he served until his muster out on July 28th, 1865.
He filed for a pension in February of 1869.
