Private Norris took sick almost as soon as he arrived in Virginia in 1864. For the month of April he had remittent fever, acute diarrhea, and the mumps.  David recovered from his sickness and was then wounded at the Battle of Petersburg on June 18th, 1864. He was shot in the right shoulder and gangrene set in eating away at his flesh. He recovered from that wound to the point where he again was able to re-join the regiment.  In the fall of 1864 he transferred to the 20th Indiana Infantry with the other surviving members of the 19th. He would serve there until his muster out in July of 1865.

David filed for a pension in 1865.

He is currently buried in a unmarked grave. In the above photo he is to the left of the GAR marker.
