Private Needham was captured at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1st, 1863 but was soon released back to the regiment. He transferred to the 20th Indiana Infantry in the fall of 1864 with the other surviving members of the 19th.
Joshua filed for and started to receive a pension in 1878.
