Private Kennedy was slightly wounded at the Battle of the Wilderness on May 5th, 1864. At an unknown date Owen mustered out of the service.
He filed for a pension in 1905 while living in Kansas and by 1910 he was divorced and living alone in Park County Colorado. At that time he was listed on the census as a prospector.
