Private Kennedy served in Battery B of the 4th U.S. Artillery from November of 1862 to December of 1863. He was wounded at the Battle of Brawner Farm on August 28th, 1862 and again at the Battle of the Wilderness on May 5th, 1864. In the fall of that year he was transferred to Company E of the 20th Indiana Infantry were he served until his muster out on July 12th, 1865.
He filed for a pension in April of 1866.
