Assistant Surgeon Kendrick contracted typhoid fever soon after arriving inWashington D.C and almost died from the sickness towards the end of 1861.
He would be discharged in early 1862 and returned to Indianaplois Indiana where he continued to practice medicine.
He filed for a pension in 1868.
