Private Jones rose to the rank of sergeant when he was wounded carrying the flag at the Battle of the Wilderness on May 5th, 1864.
He would be discharged from the service in July of 1864.
He started to receive a pension in the fall of 1864.
Jesse Jones was one of the pall-bearers at the funeral of General Solomon Meredith the first commander of the 19th Indiana in October of 1875.
