Roswell Jackson

Mustered into service as a Private on July 29th, 1861

Private Jackson was wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1st, 1863. He later served in the 2nd Battalion of the Veteran Reserve Corps.

After his discharge he came home to Indiana and married Sarah F. Blount on February 4th, 1864.

On May 11th, 1869 Roswell filed for a pension but for some reason he was denied and he never received it. He was living in Lincoln County Kansas during the 1885 Kansas State census and he had his last child James in December of 1886 while still in Kansas. On August 29th, 1896 Sarah filed for a widows pension but like her husband she was denied the benefit. At the time of filing she was living in Texas. The Denison Texas City directory for 1898 - 1899 shows Sarah as a widow living on 1200 West Main Street.

Sarah died on August 12th, 1901 and is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery located in Denison, Grayson County Texas. It is possible Roswell is also buried in the same cemetery but currently there is no record of this.
