Private Bunch was captured at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1st, 1863 but returned to the regiment soon after. He transferred to the 20th Indiana in the fall of 1864 along with the other surviving members of the 19th. When he mustered out in the summer of 1865 he held the rank of 1st Lieutenant .
