Biography
Private Buckles rose in the ranks until reaching the rank of 2nd. Lieutenant by the time he left the service in 1865. He was wounded at the Battle of Brawner Farm on August 28th, 1862, the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1st, 1863, the Battle of the Wilderness on May  5th, 1864 where he won the Medal of Honor and the last time during the Appomattox Campaign in the spring of 1865 where he lost his right leg above the knee. Abraham was the only soldier in the 19th Indiana to receive the Medal of Honor.

After the war he would study law and eventually become a Judge.

He filed for and started to receive a pension in 1865.
