John A. Brown

Mustered into service as a Private on July 29th, 1861

Private Brown was on of the very few men that mustered into the 19th Indiana at the very start of the regiment on July 29th, 1861 and serve until the final muster out on July 12th, 1865.

He was listed as missing in action after the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1st, 1863 but soon returned to this company. When the regiment was folded into the 20th Indiana in the fall of 1864 he was mustered into Company I where he served until the end of the war.

John never filed for a pension and no trace of him can be found after the war. It is possible that he died soon after returning home.
